Opportunity-
Those who attend sporting events are not eating food and drinks from the
stadium vendors because of the long wait lines. A stadium food delivery app can help that.
- · Who: People attend a large sporting event.
- What: Not getting food or drinks from the stadium vendors.
- Why: They’re either too lazy and don’t want to miss any game time or because the lines are too long.
Hypothesis
· Testing the who: During
the 2019 NFL regular season, 16.67 million fans were reported to have attended NFL games with the average attendance being over 66,000. A lot of these attendees will
most likely share the same unmet need because they don’t want to miss the game and
the lines get too long at halftime. All of the NFL stadiums also share the
unmet need of not offering a food delivery service to each seat similar to
Postmates.
·
Test the what: Food delivery apps such as Postmates, Grubhub,
and Uber Eats exist and there have been discussions before about creating an
app similar to these specifically for food vendors at sports stadiums. There would
have to be a way for the major sports organizations such as the NFL, NBA, MLB
etc. and the stadiums to come to an agreement about the full nature of the
apps.
· Testing the why: There are a variety of reasons as to why this is still an unmet need. People are lazy and don’t want to get up to get a food or beverage. Halftime is the only time you can get food without missing the game, but this is when the lines are the longest and people don’t want to wait in these lines. There are people with certain disabilities that make it difficult or unable for them to get their own food. Sports organizations also have been unable to an agreement about the approval of an app most likely due to reasons about licensing.
Interview
1- Jadon P.
Jadon
was interested in this product and wanted to learn about how this app can
benefit those with disabilities. He goes to football and baseball games with
his grandfather but because his grandfather is in a wheelchair, he’s unable to
get food for himself and Jadon doesn’t want to get food during the game or halftime so his grandfather isn’t left alone.
Interview
2- Octavia L.
Octavia
was interested in the idea of this product but a bit skeptical. She was
skeptical as to how the app and the organization that runs the app would
protect her privacy regarding her ticket information and the information on her
credit cards that she would use to purchase the food.
Interview
3- Max R.
Max wasn’t
too fond of the idea of this product. He said he doesn’t necessarily like
stadium food and would rather get something to eat elsewhere either before or
after going to a sporting event. He would only use the app if the stadium had good-quality
food and beverages.
Interview
4- Logan W.
Logan was
in favor of the idea of this product. He mentioned that he regularly uses Postmates
and he would love to see stadiums develop an app similar with the food vendors.
Whenever he attends at a football game, he says he frequently waits in long
lines at halftime and would get back to seat several minutes after a game has
resumed.
Interview
5- Sam B.
Sam was
also skeptical of the idea. She talked about how stadium food and drinks can be
overpriced and add on top of the possibility of a delivery fee being added, she
doesn’t want to spend a lot of money on food being delivered. She said she would
be interested in the product if the cost of food and the delivery fees weren’t
overly expensive.
Summary
Bernard,
ReplyDeleteI found reading about your opportunity interesting because it is an issue I have faced yet have never thought about. I think the idea of delivering the food in a perspective benefitting those who are disabled is really clever. Possibly implementing this service through the company who is providing the sports event (NFL, MLB, etc) within the same application where tickets are bought may generate more customers for this need as many would already have the app downloaded and the company can advertise the service beforehand. I also think you had a really good mixture of perspectives in your interview, which is important to understand the nature of the market of customers.
Hi Bernard,
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading your post on developing an app that can deliver food in stadiums. I found interesting that after doing your interviews you got mixed reviews and the different reasons of why people find your idea skeptical. I feel that starting any business from scratch with comes with difficulties but if you are serious about this idea, I think you can do it. It would just take a lot of research, time and I would even advice to do a partnership, so the workload doesn’t fall on you all. To what you can improve I think you might have to look into privacy, delivery fee among other things to see how you can it better that your competitors. I loved your idea, great job.
